Casa Madero, the guest of honor

Because it was founded in 1597, it is known as the oldest winery in the Americas. The tax office has historical records that certify this; including the application of Don Lorenzo Garcia to Felipe XI, King of Spain, a “grant” or endowment of land having discovered the goodness of Valle de Parras, Coahuila, for the production of wine.

In the time of New Spain, also known as Colonial Mexico, a grant was an authorization by the authorities to make use of land. The San Lorenzo tax office, now home to Casa Madero, preserves the books where the grants were given for the establishment of its winery and the production of wine and brandy which were registered more than 4 centuries ago.

Since its foundation to date, it has had uninterrupted operations and is currently the most recognized Mexican winery. Last year, its 2017 Malbec Grand Reserve was awarded the “Best of Show Mexico” award at the 28th edition of the International Mundus Vini Award in Germany. This competition is considered one of the most prestigious in Europe by the World Ranking of Wines & Spirits.

Casa Madero wines are simply delightful, their Malbec also won a Grand Gold medal along with the Shiraz Reserve 2017, which has already won this award for 5 consecutive years in the same competition. It should be noted that out of 7,300 participating wines, only 49 of these medals were awarded.
